WSJ reporting that Apple is testing 8inch iPad

Like most Apple rumors I am assuming this report isn't true, but that doesn't mean I can't hope that it is true. 

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Apple is testing out a smaller form factor of the iPad.  This smaller iPad features an 8inch screen, original model has 9.7inch, but keeps the current screen resolution.  This means that with the smaller screen and current resolution that Apple could call the screen a "retina display."

Report: Apple made a ton of money, maybe too much?

Yesterday Apple released its financial results for Q1 2012, and as a shock to everyone they made money, lots of money.  No one predicted that Apple would randomly not make billions of dollars last quarter, but at the same time no one thought they would make as much as they did.  With a total revenue of over 46 billion, and over 13 billion in pure profit Apple had one of the best financial quarters history.  Not just Apple history, its profit of 13 billion is the third highest profit any company has ever posted for a single quarter.  It is the only non-oil company in the top 20 as well.

Rumor: Apple holding press event later this month in NYC

Rumors are swirling about a possible Apple press event to be held in New York at the end of this month.  Both Kara Swisher and Techcrunch are reporting that the event will focus on media rather than new hardware.  It is sounding more and more likely that the event will cover iBooks and other publishing details.   An earlier rumor was saying that two new models of iPads would be released this month.  The newer reports make a point to say that an iPad, or any new hardware will be released.

Rumor: Apple will unveil two new versions of iPad in January

Before I go into this rumor I want to point out that at the very least I don't believe in the timing or location of the release, but the rest of the rumor is exciting enough for me to talk about!

Digitimes is reporting that Apple will be releasing two upgraded versions of the iPad to be sold along side of the current iPad 2.  The premium device will feature a screen with double the current iPad resolution, which would bring it up to "retina" level, offer a quad-core A6 processor, and a 8 megapixel camera on the back.  The mid-range iPad would sounds like it will feature most of the same upgrades, but with a slightly less impressive camera at just 5 megapixels.

Android and iOS activations skyrocket on Christmas

The first numbers showing many Android and iOS devices were actiated on Christmas are starting to roll in.  Flurry analytics is reporting that Android and iOS combined for 6.8 million total activations on Christmas day.  Even though Flurry states that they are able to detect 100% of all activations they did not break down how many each platform recieved.  The two platforms also combined for a total of 242 million app downloads on Christmas day.

Rumor: Redesigned iPhone coming in Fall of 2012

It is no surprise that there are rumors of a radically redesigned iPhone in the works.  Seeing how every tech expert predicted that the iPhone 4S would be a brand new design, and were proven wrong by Apple.  BGR is reporting that Apple is working on a new case for the iPhone, and it will be using different materials than the iPhone 4 or 4S.

Apple wins case against HTC, HTC Android phones to be banned in U.S.

In an amazing case by Apple, HTC Android phones will be banned in the United States. The ban is on all HTC devices that are running Android version 1.6 to version 2.2, and will go into effect on April 19, 2012.  What does this ban mean for consumers?  Not too much really.

Rumor: Apple to sell a smaller iPad in 2012

Yet another rumor is bubbling about a new smaller iPad to be coming out in 2012.  It seems as though Digitimes is the source of many of the new Apple product rumors, and that is due to the "sources" it has in Apple manufacturing sites.  The smaller iPad is said to feature a 7.85 inch screen so that it will line up as a competitor to the Kindle Fire.

Are you fed up with the iPhone, or confused by Android?

Well Nokia sure thinks that teens are both fed up with the iPhone, and confused by Android.  Niels Munksgaard, Nokia's director director of Portfolio, Product Marketing & Sales, told Pocket-lint all sorts of interesting tidbits in a recent interview. 

Munksgaard even points out that everyone has iPhones, and those people are tired of Apple's device.  On the other hand he feels that teens are confused not only by Android's software but by all the hardware choices, that all look the same.  While I can agree that 99% of Android phones look very very similar, there are a select few that stand out.

There are two pretty juicy tablet rumors floating around the internet today.  I didn't want to bore everyone with two seperate posts, so you get them both in one shiny package.  Seeing as both rumors revolve around the two biggest names in mobile tech right now both are fairly exciting.
